Situated close to the mighty Triglav National Park and its imposing Julian Alps, the beauty of the Soča and Bohinj valleys will leave you mesmerised. Enjoy strolling alongside rivers of melt water, shimmering a stunning aquamarine blue, or rising valley sides into spectacular mountains of predominately limestone; jagged peaks create stunning vistas wherever you look. Waterfalls cascade down into the valleys, below the mountains you will find rivers winding their way along the valley floors towards the Adriatic Sea. The site of some major battles in World War I, you will walk along parts of the famous 'Walk of Peace' which is dedicated to the memory of the multitude of casualties of World War I.
Starting in Bovec you can enjoy the blooming colourful meadows, awakening life in spring and summer, and the softness of winds, calm and peacefulness of nature in autumn. The lowland features forest, blue-green rivers and streams, magnificent waterfalls and gorges enriched with old homesteads and friendly Slovenes.
Our second centre, Ribcev Laz, is on the shores of Lake Bohinj from where you will wander around the lake, through forests and wildflower meadows, past waterfalls and explore charming hamlets adorned with half-timbered houses, stone bridges, and historic churches.
The routes follow a mixture of paths, tracks and country roads. Paths are of variable standard so you will need sturdy, waterproof mountain footwear. A particular feature of the Soca valley is the number of pedestrian suspension bridges that are used to cross the Soča river. These are well maintained but can be quite high and somewhat wobbly so may not suit people who suffer with vertigo.
Arrive at your hotel in Bovec.
You stay at Hotel Dobra Vila.
Located in Bovec, the 4* Hotel Dobra Vila is housed in a former telephone switchboard. The telephone signal started its journey in Trieste, turned via Udine jumped over Predel and was amplified in this house; iIt then went underground all the way to Vienna. There are quiet terraces and lawns to enjoy, and an observatory on the roof from which you can enjoy views of the surrounding hills. Sample some of the best Slovenia wines from the Dobra Vila wine cellar.
All room numbers have a unique meaning, the stories of the number are embodied in the design of the room. All rooms feature free Wi-Fi, television, air conditioning, minibar and private bathroom with WC, shower/bath and hairdryer.
Today you will explore the Bovec Basin passing through woods and pastures with panoramic views of the valley and mountains. Cross over the Soča river, looking out for kayakers on the turquoise waters and near the village of Kal Koritnica you'll start to follow a section of the Walk of Peace and return to Bovec via the Ravelnik outdoor museum.
A varied walk, ascending into the foothills NW of Bovec. Explore the old village, then walk through deciduous woodland to the attractive village of Pluzna before arriving at the beautiful waterfall Slap Virje, a superb bathing spot for a hot day. Pass the mysterious source of the Glijuna river which gushes out of a moss-covered jumble of boulders below the limestone cliffs. Follow an aqueduct to pass a reservoir and descend through pleasant woods and farmland back to Bovec.
A transfer takes you to Trenta from where you follow the Soča Trail (‘Pot Soča’) downstream, along the valley. Enjoy forests, lush meadows and river views before ascending to a waterfall. Pass farms and small settlements to reach the Soča gorge, which you walk alongside. In some places the gorge is only 2 metres wide. Following the river, which you cross several times on pedestrian suspension bridges, you walk beside the Krsovec gorge and finally leave the river to ascend to Bovec.
Leaving Bovec, you walk through woods and pastures until you reach the impressive Slap Boka waterfall, the highest in Slovenia at 144 metres. Cross the Soča River and after passing through the village of Log Cezsoski, walk along the valley on a gravel track, sometimes close to the river. You pass a 63m long suspension bridge, a great place for a picnic and to watch rafts and kayakers below. A transfer takes you to Ribcev Laz for your next 3 nights.
You stay at Hotel Jezero.
Situated by the shore of picturesque Lake Bohinj amongst verdant pine forest. The staff of the homely 4* Hotel Jezero will always extend a friendly welcome to guests. Featuring an indoor swimming pool, garden terrace and 2 Finnish saunas.
All rooms feature Wi-Fi, telephone, television, minibar, safe, balcony and private bathroom with WC, shower and hairdryer.
The obvious introductory walk to the Bohinj area and one which should not be missed. This is a simple walk on level, mostly good paths but with short sections of tree roots and rocks towards the far end of the north (better) shore. It can be combined with the Savica Waterfall route and - particularly if that combination should prove too long - you can return from Ukanc by bus or boat. To add to the variety, swimmers may indulge themselves as the lake's waters are warm in summer.
Today you'll follow a wonderfully sculptured narrow limestone gorge with green pools and rapids before entering a lovely alpine pasture full of wild flowers in late spring. There is a shady waterfall at the far end of the walk before returning to Ribcev Laz.
Return to Ljubljana for your flight home or enjoy extra nights in this lively city.
